Judas’ Kiss
Matthew 26:48-50 ⟷ John 18:3-12
He that betrayed him... Whomsoever I shall kiss... And forthwith... kissed him.
[...] Judas also... stood with them. No mention of Judas kissing Jesus, he simply identified him.
Determining how Jesus was identified to the soldiers is crucial. Did Judas kiss Him or not? If one Gospel clearly says he did and another ignores it entirely, it raises doubts about the event’s recording. Such discrepancies encourage readers to question the Bible’s reliability as a perfect record.
THE CHRISTIAN RESPONSE
They say silence isn’t contradiction. John chose not to record the kiss, focusing on Jesus’s self-identification. Different accounts highlight different aspects, no direct conflict.
THE ISLAMIC POSITION
Muslims counter that an inerrant text wouldn’t omit a key detail in one account and present it in another. These inconsistencies suggest human editing and weaken trust in the Bible’s authenticity, unlike the Quran’s clarity.
