DIVINITY OF CHRIST · HUMANNATURE
Jesus the Mediator Man
For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus.
A mediator by definition stands between two parties. Calling Jesus a ‘man’ mediator shows he is neither of those parties (i.e., not God), confirming his distinct, subordinate position.
THE CHRISTIAN RESPONSE
They argue Jesus’ role as mediator presupposes his divine nature, uniquely bridging God and man.
THE ISLAMIC POSITION
Being called ‘the man’ Christ Jesus underscores his humanity and mediating role, separate from God’s own identity, rather than equating him with God.
