Altered Worship Verse
And the four beasts said, Amen. And the four and twenty elders fell down and worshipped him that liveth for ever and ever.
This phrase is omitted in Codex Sinaiticus and Codex Vaticanus, which is why the NIV and ESV do not include it. This variation shows that scribes may have expanded descriptions of divine worship. While subtle, it shows that scribes had the freedom to alter the text, emphasizing that even in praise passages, the Bible's wording wasn't set in stone.
THE CHRISTIAN RESPONSE
This addition does not alter the theological foundation. Scribes reinforced the text’s central theme—worship of God and the Lamb. Minor adjustments are considered devotional enrichments rather than corruptions.
THE ISLAMIC POSITION
If even worship statements are subject to expansion, how can we trust that the original authors’ words remain untouched? Each instance of alteration casts doubt on the Bible’s textual integrity, supporting the Muslim view that past scriptures were not perfectly preserved like the Quran.
