The Added Eunuch's Confession
And Philip said, If thou believest with all thine heart, thou mayest. And he answered and said, I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God.
This whole verse (37) is not found in the earliest manuscripts of Acts before the 6th century, and appears to be a later addition, questioning its originality. This addition shows that doctrinal clarity was sometimes achieved by altering the text, challenging the belief that the early Christian doctrine remained unchanged.
THE CHRISTIAN RESPONSE
Even if this verse is missing from some manuscripts, it articulates a confession of faith that is consistent with early Christian practice. It doesn't introduce new doctrine but reinforces existing beliefs. Scribes may have added this line to clarify baptismal prerequisites.
THE ISLAMIC POSITION
The absence of this verse in earlier manuscripts suggests it was added later. Relying on such additions to support key beliefs weakens the reliability of the Scripture and raises concerns about its preservation. This also brings the concept of Jesus' Sonship, a central theological belief, into question. The later addition shows scribes adjusting Scripture to fit evolving doctrine.
