Added Prayer to The End of Romans

Romans 16:24

The Tension
PASSAGE ARomans 16:24
The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all. Amen.
Analysis

does not appear in many early Greek manuscripts such as Codex Sinaiticus and Codex Vaticanus. As a result, both the NIV and ESV omit this verse, considering it a later addition to the text. Its addition shows that the biblical text was not perfect or unchangeable.

Perspectives

THE CHRISTIAN RESPONSE

This verse does not introduce new doctrine. Scribes added a liturgical or traditional blessing that was common in early Christian communities. It is a pious insertion rather than a deceptive corruption.

THE ISLAMIC POSITION

Even a simple prayer reveals the Bible’s fluid text. If scribes could add a concluding verse, what else might have been modified? These additions raise doubts about claims of an inerrant or divinely preserved Scripture. They support the argument that the Bible has been subject to human tampering, casting uncertainty on its authenticity.
