Numbers 30:2

The Tension
PASSAGE ANumbers 30:2
If a man makes a vow to the LORD, or swears an oath... he shall do according to all that proceeds out of his mouth.

[Āl ʼImrān - 77]

[Āl ʼImrān - 77] Verily, those who purchase a small gain at the cost of Allah's Covenant and their oaths, they shall have no portion in the Hereafter (Paradise). Neither will Allah speak to them, nor look at them on the Day of Resurrection, nor will He purify them, and they shall have a painful torment.

Analysis

This verse is relevant because it underscores a fundamental moral principle also found in Islam: the sanctity of one’s word. By identifying similarities in biblical and Islamic ethics, Muslims show that Islamic morality is grounded in a heritage of truthfulness and reliability, demonstrating continuity rather than divergence.
