No Stealing
You shall not steal, you shall not deal falsely, you shall not lie to one another.
[Al-Māʼidah - 38]
﴿ وَٱلسَّارِقُ وَٱلسَّارِقَةُ فَٱقۡطَعُوٓاْ أَيۡدِيَهُمَا جَزَآءَۢ بِمَا كَسَبَا نَكَٰلٗا مِّنَ ٱللَّهِۗ وَٱللَّهُ عَزِيزٌ حَكِيمٞ ﴾ [المائدة - ٣۸]
Cut off (from the wrist joint) the (right) hand of the thief, male or female, as a recompense for that which they committed, a punishment by way of example from Allah. And Allah is All-Powerful, All-Wise.
This is relevant because it shows that basic moral commands, like avoiding theft, are neither new nor uniquely Islamic. They form part of a continuous chain of divine instruction. For Muslims giving Dawah, pointing out this continuity helps clarify that Islam’s moral code aligns with, and confirms, what God has always demanded of humanity. Such recognition promotes understanding and counters misconceptions that Islam’s ethics are disconnected from earlier revelation.
